| So it's a bad thing, right? Maybe? Maybe not. Never fear, there is reasoning!
I am reading Questionable Content, a very funny and well-drawn webcomic by some dude named Jeph. In the strip previous to the one linked (I just linked to where I was. Hit First to read from the beginning!) Dora's mother is talking about the leather pants Dora would wear for days at a time until they stank to high heaven. This was when Dora was in high school. Dora's boyfriend turned to her and said, "You're never allowed to scold me for wearing the same pair of socks two days in a row again."
But... as someone who had some trouble with clothing-related hygiene, wouldn't Dora know pretty well what acceptable clothing-related hygiene is? Yes, she is being a bit of a hypocrite, but it isn't like she's wearing the stinky leather pants NOW. She USED to wear them, learned that they are nasty, and has better habits now. She learned from her mistake! Now she is trying to help others learn, by beseeching them not to wear nasty socks.
SO basically what it boils down to is this: If the person being hypocritical is Really hypocritical, then that's annoying. No telling me to stop smoking cigarettes while you take a hit off your joint, okay? (For reference, I don't smoke pot OR tobacco. They're both nasty. So's alcohol.) But if you used to smoke and you had a rough time with it, maybe, and you learned from it and now you're telling me that hey, it's really not good for me, then okay, I think I can accept your advice. Because you KNOW. Because you DID it.

| First of all, I downloaded a font called Lassus (link takes you to preveiw page at Dafont.com), which looks like musical notes. And because I'm strange, I just HAD to type out every conceivable letter and see what they all did. BUT SERIOUSLY. NOW I CAN PRINT MY OWN MUSIC SHEETS.

I also downloaded several fonts that look like Japanese, for the sole purpose of being able to write PIKKUMIIIN in katakana. Maybe someday I'll make similar translators for those.
BUT THEN. After downloading these fonts, I sighed and frowned and made sad faces and googled "how can I make my computer understand Japanese?" Because it doesn't, and this is a source of much vexation for me. So one of the links that Google showed me was to the official Microsoft website, saying (in essence) "Just download this! :D"
...well, I did. And it's not perfect--AIM still doesn't seem to understand, and Opera has trouble in the title bar--but I WENT TO AMAZON.CO.JP (yeah, Amazon still fails, I was just looking, it was the first place that popped into my head! I promise next time I'll use yahoo.co.jp instead) AND IT WORKED. Instead of those ugly nasty little square things, I got JAPANESE.

I have a few misc questions about HP canon:
Did Shacklebolt really become Minister of Magic? If so, where did we learn this--ie, is it book canon, interveiw canon, what?
In the seventh book, during the camping scene (you know, the one that mijan did first and wayyy better), did enlarging charms work on the Invisibility Cloak? How about waterproofing charms? Did they specify incantations?
And a question about HP non-canon:
What exactly happens before Hogwarts for wizarding children? Muggle primary school? Considering the attitudes of purebloods, not likely. Then is there a Wizarding primary school somewhere in the country? I think JKR has killed that idea in an interveiw.
What about post-Hogwarts schooling? Is most training on-the-job, through trade schools, or are there wizarding colleges?
The way I figure it, seven years is not enough time to learn all the magic that we've seen adults in the HP series perform. There was no mention in Hogwarts of any of Molly Weasley's culinary magic, for example. I dunno, it jsut doesn't make much sense to me.
5 - Funeral
The high heels made my legs hurt like fuck. That's pretty much all I have to say about that.
7 - Regionals
People keep asking me how I did. I don't really know. I did badly, I just don't remember my score. Why not? Because I was busy running the best DS tournament EVER.
Seriously. 65 participants, awesome prizes provided by V's father and K, and after the first round there were NO BYES. That's right--I ran a perfect tournament.
Plus, the floors were made of smooth cement, and I was wearing fuzzy socks. My main mode of transportation consisted of run-and-slide-and-run-and-slide. Only fell down once though!
I think all the running I did that day is why my legs didn't hurt that day--and why the hurt so fucking bad the next day.

So anyway. You know my grandma died, you know the rule on no condolences. Her funeral is tomorrow, my coat shrank in the wash, it's five AM, I'm not clean and neither is anyone else in the house, my boyfriend needs a vectored image in multiple colors with a layer per color by tomorrow afternoon, which sounds reasonable until you realize that I am COMPLETELY BOOKED BETWEEN NOW AND THEN WITH IRONING, WASHING, AND FUNERALING. PLEASE NOTE THE LACK OF MENTION OF SLEEP. THAT IS BECAUSE I AM NOT DOING THAT TONIGHT.
If you know me well at all, you know that I don't do well without my sleep. I'll probably nap between now and then, but a couple hours won't be enough.
Anyway, so I finally get a moment's break--and not because there's nothing to do, but because my mom takes pity on me and tells me to talk to my boyfriend already--and I sit down, sigh in relief, and open my flist.

IN UNRELATED NEWS, what is up with the sudden friending of all my RP journals? gingin_weasley, failing_at, george_redone, siri_siriusly--they've all in the last two days been friended by someone completely fucking random. How do they find the inactive accounts? Why friend an empty journal? Ugh, I ought to delete those accounts just to get rid of them--reduce LJ's userbase just that little bit.

In other news! Remember how I said I was going to meet up with First Nate last night? Well, I did, and it was fun, and I've discovered a forum that may or may not turn out interesting--but if nothing else, it will be to me as Myspace was to my high school years: a way to keep in touch with people I have no other way to keep in touch with.
I've come to the conclusion that I really need to have friends my own age. You guys are great and all, but none of you are coming of age nearby--and even if you are, none of you have been growing up with me for the last six, seven years, on and off. I'm pretty glad to have my friends back.
So! That's been my day so far. Work is work as usual, I think I'm pretty much done blogging phlebotomy. I'll do one after Saturday, I suppose.
So after four and a half weeks of no one I kenw coming in, two people knew came in today. No names since I'm pretty sure that's a HIPAA violation, but it was neat to see them. ^-^

I have learned that emotional indices were not, in fact, from "Coventry" but were from "'If This Goes On...'" Here is an excerpt from that fiction, from The Past Through Tomorrow by Robert A. Heinlein. I think anyone with even a passing interest in writing will appreciate this.
A little bit of backstory: the characters speaking went through military training together and became, essentially, palace guards in the midst of a theocratic government--very oppresively so. The entire story takes place in North America and in fact mentions in passing the now-defunct United States of America, as well as such historical figures as Washington and Jefferson. The two characters, Zeb and John Lyle, are meeting again after several months apart as members of a revolutionary group called the Cabal. First person--narrator is Lyle.
PS: Please don't make any comments on teh religious veiws of either the ruling majority or the narrator himsef--firstly, it is a peice of ficion which neither reflects my veiws nor the author's; secondly, the focus of the story as a whole is overcoming the religious majority and regaining freedom; thirdly, I am not showing you this to shock you with the idea of America becoming a religious theocracy. I am showing you this so that you may understand what Heinlein is saying about word choice in writing.

I had a crazy dream last night, guys, here it is
obv I only remember bits and pieces, isn't that the way with dreams
I was dreaming I was like a video game main character kind of kid, young teen possibly part-fox boy (though if I had a penis I didn't notice) and I was called upon probably by some really beautiful older woman to help Save the World or some such
anyway, much much later in my quest, I was tied to a stone cross thing and tossed onto this huge fire, I could kind of sketch the area if I needed to. anyway, the lady who called on me, who I later got an impression of being Bella Cullen, was talking to me, trying to get me to calm down and I--at this part I was more of an objective observer, so the fox kid was screaming and thrashing around and Bella kept telling him to hold still, stop trying to pull the ropes off, for some reason that was really important. somehow she was telling me this from a distance, but then she was there and of course it made perfect sense, and then I was her and I got the fox kid off the cross andddd that's about all I remember
I do know that part of the thing I had to save the world from was Edward--somehow, for some reason, he'd gone like batshit crazy--like seriously batshit crazy. possibly also Alice, and possibly also some other number of the Cullens. most likely not Carlisle though. | 1 - Disney marathon continued with Toy Story 2. Not as good as the first, but I noticed lots of neat parallels; in the first one, a lot of it was Woody convincing Buzz that YOU ARE A TOY. This time, Buzz had to remind Woody that he is a toy, he is specifically Andy's toy, and that that really means something. Also, it was hilarious to watch Buzz and the new Buzz toy interact--some of the exact same things happen to new!Buzz as happened to original!Buzz in the first movie, most notably the opening of the space helmet. And this line is great:
Buzz: Is everyone acconuted for?
Mr. Potato Head: Not quite.
Buzz: Who's behind?
Slinky: Mine. *back half waddles up and pops down, exhausted*
2 - OKAY OKAY GUYS SERIOUSLY OMG. Okay, there was phlebotomy class, you all know that. And there were awesome people in phlebotomy class, one of whom (that would be L, kids) I likened to mijan. Okay so she has a kid, right, a 14-year-old daughter, who is KIND OF AWESOME. HI GUYS THIS IS ME BEING EXCITED. BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE not really bouncing but yeah, a little bit thrilled over here.

| 1 - Watched Toy Story yesterday and Tarzan today. Marathon of Disney movies will continue tomorrow with Whatever I Can Get My Hands On, because I've forgotten how damn good these stories are. The fight with the gorrilla-snatchers? Gave me chills. Seriously awesome shit.
2 - Still haven't heard from Tonya regarding my clinicals. Got lots of time left though, no worries.
3 - She Who Must Not Be Named has featured heavily in my thoughts, but not shown up at all in my electronic correspondence. I find myself rather more sad than I think I really ought to be.
4 - I've decided I'm going with the boy to meet his family on Christmas. I'm going to be brilliantly nervous and--oh shit, I won't have gifts for any of them. I will have to bake a shit ton of cookies, because all his brothers will be there, and his mom and grandparents and uncles and cousins and relatives he doesn't even know, and I can't exactly show up empty-handed. ...And I've forgotten his mother's bloody name again. Shitfuck.
